Do Authors Need a Website?
Short answer: no. You don’t need a website. Like if you live in Los Angeles or in a small town in the United States, you don’t need a car. You can get around by walking and public transportation.
Having a car is much appreciated, highly preferred, and needed by enough people. Same for having a website.
However, if you have creative and/or artistic goals, financial goals, career and/or professional goals, building a cult (I mean community), ideological goals, business goals, or monumental personal goals—then yes, having a website is what will take you there.
Let’s go deeper!
While you can more easily get away with posting content on social media and using Linktree to link your amazing work for your readers, what happens when you are reported by a hater and your account is deleted or blocked? Or a school wants to contact you for an event but is greeted by an Instagram page or Linktree page—not so thrilling.
Therefore, having a website, even a simple website, will do. Be sure it lists your books, a small about section, a contact section, and any sections that may be applicable to your goals (speaking events, bonus chapters, newsletter).
Now that we’ve established that a website is necessary, the next—or rather better—question is what kind of goal are you aiming toward?
Hobby writing? Social media could pass, but having a website can increase your book sales.
Side hustle? Yup, get a website. Ensure it has everything promoting your books and merch.

So again, do authors need a website? No. But you need one.
Cheers!
Hey, my name is Erica, a new friend and website designer. I love designing jaw-dropping websites for authors whose work goes beyond the pen. My favorite tropes are sports romance, forbidden romance, workplace romance, fantasy romance, dark romance, hidden royalty, reverse harem, harem, mafia princess, revenge plot, bodyguard mafia, organized crime society, secret society, ruthless antihero, heir to the throne, and mob boss romance. I love sweets, laughing with my daughter and husband, and I am on the first draft of my first book—yay.
